The Merrimack County Department of Corrections maintains a team of select staff members to respond to and restore order in emergency situations and disturbances. This Special Response Team is trained and equipped to handle situations beyond the scope of regular correctional staff. Team members are qualified in the use of department issued firearms to conduct transports and other duties as directed. To become a SRT member a correctional officer must be certified, have successfully completed the mandatory probationary period, and be physically able to perform SRT functions. The selection process may include testing, review by a board, updated background checks, and substance abuse testing.
Special Response Team members are held to the highest of standards. Their abilities and acuity is honed through hours of training and hands-on experience.
